GCSE Question : Groups
In my research I have decided to branch off on two side projects in order to complete my main project, Groups. These two side projects are Coins and Cards, I have decided to use these items as I believe that, as they are simple household items, and they are usually kept in groups, so going into depth on these (I think) will produce very intriguing and aesthetically pleasing images. A new perspective on such simple items I believe will greatly boost my creativity and will allow me to capture new perspectives on these items. I think the coins and cards will be an interesting pursuit as the coins can produce very nice looking images under specific light conditions, as the shine of the coin complements the picture greatly, and produces a really appealing photograph (as you can see in my research) Even without the shine that new coins tend to produce, rusty coins can also produce images of similar quality, as the rustiness will create very atmospheric and intriguing pictures, this is because the rustiness (In my opinion) can create somber feelings in the viewer, and creates an almost rundown feeling in the viewer as they see these old coins and in specific conditions (mainly conditions via photoshop) can make the viewer feel a small amount of sympathy towards the pennies. For the cards an organised pack of cards, that are in specific formations (such as the fan formation) can create simple 'pleasing-to-the-eye' pictures as the sense of order can please the viewer visually. That said the opposite is also true, most of the time in photography, opposites can complement one another, so cards placed in messy situations that create patterns, can appeal to us in a strange way, as human beings can sometimes find beauty in chaos.
As the exam prep continues, I have realised that there are always more options for group photography, and rather than restrict myself to two specific objects to capture, I have allowed myself to take photographs of a lot more than originally planned. I have decided to do this as i believe it will grant me a lot more creative freedom in terms of this project, and will also end up as a lot more varied and creative portfolio of images.
My own work
Unfortunately I was not able to take pictures of the pennies and cards that I described in the paragraph above, simply due to the lack of these objects at hand so I instead opted to take some pictures of other objects. Although I was not able to capture the pictures I'd like, the ones I did take I am very pleased with as they present an interesting gallery for the viewer. The most fun to photograph, was the coloured pencils, as I could produce so many colourful pictures that are vibrant, but still fall within the question brief. The high heels allowed me take great photos, I was able to select from a multitude of high heels, but I kept to the more glamourous ones as i felt that these would be
